From the Forum: Why Are the Knobs on Brownstone Doors Placed So Low?

Have you ever noticed that knobs on Victorian doors tend to be placed rather low compared to modern ones? A Brownstoner reader is wondering why that is. He or she is skeptical it’s because people were supposedly shorter back then.
