Stretching through three Brooklyn neighborhoods, the Atlantic Antic is billed as New York’s largest and oldest street festival. This year it’s celebrating turning 45.
Since the first fair in 1975, the event has packed in a diverse mix of local food, music and merchants reflecting the surrounding neighborhoods. Camels strolled down the avenue in 1975 according to a New York Times report on the first fair, with thousands of people joining them for a day-long party.
The fair continues the tradition of offering a distinct mix of food, fun and performance with vendors and performance stages packed along Atlantic between 4th Avenue and Hicks Street. You can shop and eat your way through Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill and Boerum Hill.
In addition to checking out the wares from local shops and sampling delicacies, you can hear music and watch performances on multiple stages scattered along the route. There will be orchestras, church choirs, DJs, belly dancers, ballet and more. There will also be the awarding of the Atlantic Avenue Ambassador Award to YMCA President and CEO Martha Kamber at 2:15 p.m on the main stage.
The Atlantic Antic takes place on Sunday, September 29 from 12 to 6 p.m, rain or shine. To check out the full list of events and vendors check out the full schedule online.
