After a two-year pandemic hiatus, the celebration of community building and greening the borough is back with the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Greenest Block in Brooklyn competition.
After a two-year pandemic hiatus, the celebration of community building and greening the borough is back with the Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Greenest Block in Brooklyn competition.
A smaller, socially distance competition focused on window boxes was held last year but this summer marks the return of the block-wide competition, culminating in a late summer in-person awards ceremony.
The application process for this year’s contest is now open and participants have until June 1 to enter. There are eight categories, including best overall residential block, best window box, greenest storefront and a special award for a block or garden demonstrating visible eco-friendly practices like composting and rainwater collection.
Registered participants have the opportunity to brush up their garden skills with a “How to Green Your Block” workshop, with sessions scheduled in April and May.
More details and registration materials can be found at the project website here.
