To celebrate the launch of another season of programming, the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy is starting things off with Lift Off: A Waterfront Kite Festival. The family-friendly event is free and includes a packed schedule of hands-on activities.
The festival will take place on Saturday, May 5 from noon to 2:30 p.m. and, in keeping with the kite-flying theme, all the activities will emphasize flight and science. Spark by Brooklyn Children’s Museum will be there to help kids make a kite so they can get in on the flying fun. Private Picassos will be giving a rocket workshop if your flying fancies lean more towards space vehicles.

Other hands-on activities will be hosted by the Brooklyn Robot Foundry, Genspace, STEM Kids NYC and the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy’s Environmental Education Center.
Contributing to the festive atmosphere will be live DJs, jugglers and stilt walkers. All the fun will take place at the Pier 1 Harbor View Lawn. For more information, click here.

The event kicks off the full spring and summer season of programs in the park, with more than 500 free or low cost events planned.
