Parkour, an exercise regimen based on military obstacle course training, has arrived in Brooklyn. And it probably comes as no shock that the first gym to offer it is in Bushwick. Today the Brooklyn Paper reports: “Bklyn Beast, the borough’s first parkour gym, will ramp up the athletic European subculture, which challenges practitioners to artfully use their bodies to leap over, duck under, and somersault across any obstacle in their paths.” The gym, located at 230 Bogart Street, has a foam pit, hurdling and vaulting obstacles, a trampoline, and plenty of padded mats. (Above, a photo of the foam pit and some obstacles.) Bklyn Beast also offers classes in Capoeira, breakdancing and yoga. It soft opened last week, with a grand opening planned for Jan. 26, according to the Brooklyn Paper. Classes are $18 each.
