Test the Waters With Free Boating in Sunset Park This Summer

If you have wanted to determine your sea-worthiness but have been a bit nervous about launching yourself into New York’s waterways, you can start off gently with an excursion in the Bush Terminal Park lagoon.
A pilot community boating program is being offered on four days this summer to determine the feasibility of a permanent public boating feature at Bush Terminal Park. Beginning boaters can venture out into the protected outer lagoon in canoes and kayaks or try out wooden dories built by Sunset Park students as part of the Brooklyn Oyster Dory Program.
The pilot program in Sunset Park is a collaboration between the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation and the Billion Oyster Project, Gowanus Dredgers, Brooklyn Boatworks and Sunset Spark.
To join in the boating fun go to Bush Terminal Park at the end of 43rd Street on one of the following dates: Saturday, July 21 from 3 to 6 p.m.; Saturday, August 4 from 2 to 6 p.m.; Thursday, August 9 from 3 to 7 p.m.; Thursday, August 23 from 3 to 7 p.m. For more information, visit the Gowanus Dredgers website here.
