The first link goes to NYT and reads: ” A Russian mobster stalked Iranian dissident”.
Then name mentioned in this article “Russian mobster” is not russian.
It sounds as from one of former USSR republics that are independent countries for some of 30 years as of now.
Simple google bring an information that this person, Khalid Medhyev, is the citizen of Azerbaijan, an oil rich country that keeps closer ties with US then Russia.
If Brownstoner becomes a dirtpit of global politics I will stop reading it and I am a reader from the very beginning.
Thank you so much for your comment. The headlines you see in Links are the original headlines from the publication in which the linked story appears (sometimes compressed a bit to fit in the space). These are not our headlines and these are not our stories. Daily Links is a compilation of news in other publications about things happening in Brooklyn that affect people living in Brooklyn, including our readers. The NYT story gives more detail about their headline, and it refers to the man as “an Azerbaijani member of a Russian crime syndicate.”
