It’s hard to miss Dyker Heights at this time of year, when the neighborhood glimmers with thousands of lights and over-the-top holiday displays.

An annual tradition for decades, residents start decking their houses in November, getting ready for the post-Thanksgiving crowds to descend on the streets. Despite frustrations from some locals over the noise, food vendors, traffic and general upheaval, the tradition continues this year. The most brilliant displays are concentrated between 11th and 13th avenues and 83rd through 86th streets, with splashy lighting, music and giant character displays.

Wide-eyed visitors are just starting to post images on Instagram. Here are some top picks to get you into the spirit of the holiday in Dyker Heights.
