I lived in the “Do the Right Thing” Brooklyn and now I live in the “Do the White Thing” Brooklyn. I much prefer the latter.
BTW – the skit is satire. For those that don’t understand satire – its not supposed to represent reality, just make fun of reality through exaggeration and humor. Get over yourselves.
Laura, why does B’Stoner now delete comments that call into question it’s editorial?
Hi there — I’m not sure what you’re referring to but please feel free to email me, laura at brownstoner.com.
On your “steel anniversary” post, I wrote that the editorial here had become “garbage”, and that Mr. B has clearly sold at a market top. You deleted that comment, and three other that agreed. Why? Can’t handle criticism?
Hi carrolgardener1,
That post was just an announcement so we decided to close comments.
Thanks,

we get it, brooklyn is changing. what i hate about these pieces (including the SNL bushwick sketch) is the implication that somehow white people & white culture is making these communities more respectful, considerate, kind and gentle.
I didn’t see the SNL one, but the impression I got from this is the exact opposite–that white people act like they’re making these communities more respectful, kind., but in fact they’re dripping with smug superiority, condescension, and a self-centered indifference to the community as it existed before them.
