Artist Matthew Barney has purchased a town house in Fort Greene, 67 South Elliott Place, according to the New York Observer. That makes perfect sense to us, since we heard a rumor last week that he and Bjork had split up. Perhaps she’s keeping the apartment in Brooklyn Heights. Or maybe he’s just buying a place to use as an artist studio. There have been rumors for years that the two had broken up, so who knows.
The wood frame Italianate house has a porch and was built around 1854. It is landmarked. The top half of the exterior is covered in Permastone, and the inside could probably use a bit of work. The listing can still be seen on Corcoran. The house next door at 65 South Elliott Place was recently restored. Barney paid $1,990,000, a smidge above the asking price of $1,995,000. Perhaps Barney intends to restore it. We hope so.

I had to google who these people are. Bushwick seems more like their neighborhood from what I can see. I like the Brooklyn celebrity real estate gossip, especially when I recognize the people. I knew who Martin Amis is, probably because I am a librarian. He moved to my neighborhood, allegedly, but I have never seen him. I saw John Waters in my neighborhood a few weeks ago. I waved. He waved. I plotzed. Big fan.
