Beloved Cobble Hill green grocer and neighborhood staple Pacific Green Gourmet has decided to move eight blocks south, into Carroll Gardens, to 303 Court Street to make way for J.Crew, Patch was the first to report. The produce store had one year left on its lease when its landlord signed a new lease with the clothing retailer for the prominent corner spot at 151 Court Street. The opportunity to move came up suddenly, as Vincent Mastellone, owner of Italian deli and grocery Mastellone, decided to retire. Today is Mastellone’s last day. No word yet on exactly when Pacific Green will make the move. Patrons had started a petition and Pacific Green said it would sue its landlord.
Update: Pacific Green Gourmet says it does not plan to leave its Cobble Hill location but is opening a second outpost at 303 Court Street, according to Racked.

There are much cooler items at stores like Smith & Butler and Goose Barnacle on Atlantic than anything you’re going to find at J.Crew. I also noticed a new shop on Atlantic & Hicks that I haven’t checked out yet. I hope our neighborhood stores will be able to compete with J.Crew’s price point.
I hope people don’t patronize this J Crew location. Brooklyn loves its mom&pop shops and these big chain stores just don’t belong in our neighborhoods. Keep ’em in Manhattan.
I know I’m late to the game with commentary, but what good are leases if even the landldord won’t honor them? As a tenant, the lease is worthless if everyone follows this landlord’s game.
not sure what a ‘manhattan’ style store is but J Crew seems like a mall store. Is that same as ‘manhattan style’.
Doesn’t bother me if they do take the space. And not sure why manhattan seems like a ‘schlep’. Are you invalid by any chance?
actually, brklynmind, why don’t you shut up? I probably know more about real estate law than you do, and by the way, this boils down to a contractual issue, plain and simple.
Again, you will just have to read the whole story. Don’t just “ass”ume that the lease expired. That would be silly.
If you had read the entire story, you would ahve known that the grocer still had one year left on his lease. Hence, his desire to sue.
