We’re a bit late on this one, but about a week ago the city declared Red Hook Park free of the cancer causing chemicals previously discovered by state environmental workers, according to the Brooklyn Paper. The nearby plastic manufacturing plant is currently being sued by the state to continue its clean up of PCBs, so this negative test result runs contradictory to earlier tests that said PCB levels in the groundwater are 110 times higher that what is considered safe. As resident Pete Morales says, It’s very difficult for us to trust the city, particularly with everything that has been dumped on Red Hook… I would like to see more testing.” GMAP
