A business that was supposed to serve Williamsburg’s Schaefer Landing seems all washed up. The photo of the eviction notice above, which is taped to a Schaefer Landing storefront, comes via a tipster who writes that The tenant, Aphrodite Cleaners, has never moved in – doesn’t appear to have done any work on the place, and is now being served with eviction papers. So far, there is no retail at Schaeffer that I know of. Far as we know, the main, 9,500-square-foot retail space at Schaefer is still on the market; more than a year ago, the project’s original brokers said they wanted to rent it to a supermarket. The apparent loss of the dry cleaning company comes as the development faces four months without water taxi service, an amenity that Shaefer’s developers say was an important marketing tool for the condo. It played a big role in closing a lot of our deals, BFC Partners principal/Schaefer developer Donald A. Capoccia told the Times.
What Is Up With Schaefer Landing? [Brownstoner] GMAP
hey.. the waterfront in williamsburg will not be changing overnight or soon. but, it is a comin… personally, i’d love to see a bridge (pedestrian even???) over to 14th street.
considering the stupid shit – see highline! or washington sq park! that the city wastes millions on, why not??
“bombay frustration” really? try the 6 train.
the L is no big deal. plus, the city is adding trains.
alilove – thats a bit clueless of you. Its becuase of the Bombay-style-overcrowded frustration of commuting on the L that the Edge etc. have to tout the illusory water taxi idea in the first place.
i walk all over williamsburg including about a 14 block walk to the JMZ because I find it convenient.
we are NY’ers – walking is good!

This will not be as big a problem for these developments. I was down by the site of Edge is weekend. It is only 4-5 blocks from the Bedford Ave station on the L. Northside Piers is a block down the street. So people living in these buildings will have an option if the water taxi dosen’t work out.
In terms of the ferry, what are Northside Piers, The Edge, etc doing about this? They have the water taxi in all their marketing materials and Northside Piers is building a dock for it! Hopefully some additional funding will take place.

Schaefer’s is very expensive for the area. doubt that it’s hipster filled. i don’t live in south burg, but have to admit that the views and the apts there are pretty cool.
it’s no biggie any of this. plenty of stuff in south williamsburg including the JMZ to service these owners. also, there is so so much development coming to the south river front area around there in the future.
i will not be buying on the river front because i’m hopefully living in my condo for a long time, but I think that anyone who has that view – manhattan, bridges, etc… will have made a good investment and is no doubt enjoying it immensely in the here and now.
not sure why anyone cares enough to get pissy about this development. think you all need to get therapy.
this is a non-story.
I tired on multiple occassions to apply for the rental apartments there. They made it impossible to get in contact with them, never returning any calls, always closed at weekends. I don’t know whats wrong with them.
Is anyone surprised that the brokers lied to get people buy here really?
