StreetLevel: Court Street Biz Hops to 5th Ave.

We’ve been excited to see what would fill the 5th Avenue storefront where an artist set up an interactive project soliciting opinions about what sort of retail would be most welcome in the space. As it turns out, none of the wished-for shops (which included a bookstore, Indian restaurant and noodle shop) are gonna happen, because the space has been leased to Teddy, a women’s boutique that also opened a Cobble Hill location on Court Street about half a year ago. A good fit for Fifth? GMAP
I am opposed to Cobble Hill businesses opening in Park Slope, and Park Slope businesses opening in Cobble Hill. I guess it’s not as bad as national chains, but it’s boring all the same. Soon there will be no difference between Smith St and 5th Ave.
I actually like that guy selling the trash he finds in front of the messed up building on 5th Ave next to the Chip Shop. It never fails to make me laugh to see what prices he’s trying to get for stuff that’s been abandoned, that he keeps it chained up. I realize it’s not a fancy boutique or expensive foodie shop, but it lends some character to the strip in my opinion. He doesn’t hassle anyone.
Forget Teddy. What happened to JFK Fried Chicken? They’re shuttered! Woe!
B&G is at 4th and 7th, which is my block. 🙂
8:49 – I show up around twice a month…and I don’t walk around to see what is being done. The only store front that I knew was being renovated is the nail shop. I had no idea about the real estate office or the carpet place until i read this post.
8:48 – you are right. that is the biggest eyesore. however, its not on my street. my building is between 5th and 6th.
8:50 – B&G did re-open. They are on corner of 4th avenue and 6st (although im not sure about the street)now. I still use their service when a fridge needs to be repaired or replaced. They provide a great service…i just did not like their buisness on my block.
I heard the B&G will re-open under new management, and the sidewalk will be lined with Subzeros.
I thought those places were long gone. You said you are glad they WILL move out.
Have you not been there recenly?
They are already being renovated. They are gone.
Something sounds fishy.
The biggest eyesore is the old guy with garbage chained to his storefront next to Chip Shop. And the abandoned building a couple more doors down.
so do you have any news on what else is coming in on your block?
