The North Slope’s gonna be packing more…packing stuff. As Racked reported yesterday, trendy luggage purveyor Flight 001 is opening a store on 5th Avenue between St. Marks and Bergen within the next month or so. (For those of you trying to keep up with 5th Avenue’s dizzying retail turnover, the space Flight 001 is taking over used to house a hardware biz that’s moved a couple storefronts down.) The company’s already tested the Brooklyn waters with its Smith Street location, and the so the hop to the Slope would seem to signal that the Smith-ification of 5th is continuing apace.

  1. isn’t the flight 001 only like 10 minutes from here?! how many of these stores are they going to put in? i don’t know about you, but i don’t understand why they would put another store so close to their other one.

  2. Hmmm.. another flight001? I guess that’s good, but wtf, why do I need a second specialty luggage boutique within 10 minutes of my door? I’ve been going to Smith Street previously. Why make me choose!

  3. 5th is probably the best retail strip in all of Brooklyn! I really love it here and am a recent transplant from Williamsburg, we hope that the trend of retail follows in the South Slope with all the new additions we have down here. We can’t wait to move into our new condo on 16th Street.

  4. just take a walk all the way down 5th…i did today.

not only are there the above mentioned stores, but there’s something opening across from “the gate” there is an edible arrangements going in down near 5th and 10th where the quiznos subs was…there’s something called “teddy’s” opening up not far from this flight001 place, and that new “organic heights” place looks ready to open soon on bergen between 5th and flatbush.

and that’s not even everything. soula shoe store opened recently, that canaille french bistro…literally every week i see a couple new things either opened or being worked on…

it’s incredible. and lots of fun non-chain stuff which is great to see…
