Vans Replaces American Apparel on North 6th in Williamsburg
The store, The General by Vans, occupies a fraction of the once large and prominent space recently vacated by bankrupt chain American Apparel
Vans opened Thursday at 102 North 6th Street in Williamsburg. The store, The General by Vans, occupies a fraction of the once large and prominent space recently vacated by bankrupt chain American Apparel, a photo from a tipster shows.
American Apparel was for many years one of the only chain stores in the neighborhood, now one of the hottest and most expensive retail areas in Brooklyn.
The popular shoe skate brand has another store in Kings Plaza in Mill Basin and a concert venue in Greenpoint, where legendary California punk band The Descendents played for free this past summer.
The North 6th space is owned by RedSky Capital, which has been snapping up strategically placed plots in Williamsburg and elsewhere in the borough. Around the corner from Vans is Brooklyn’s first Apple store, in another RedSky property at 247 Bedford.
