It’s time to hit the pavement. On July 6th, the 2014 Tour de Queens by Jamis will take bicyclists on a fun-filled, family-friendly trek through the borough. An estimated 20 miles, the route will begin in Flushing Meadows Corona Park and take participants through Flushing, East Flushing, Murray Hill, Auburndale, Bayside, Bayside Terrace, Beechurst and Whitestone with…
I went back to Whitestone & Flushing for my Flushing H.S. 50th Reunion a few years ago. We had a tour of the great old F.H.S. building (still looks just like it did), complete with gargoyles & hallway murals. It was wonderful to see that historic "castle" still standing, & operating. The auditorium is amazing; beautiful stained glass windows, wooden seats, wood everywhere, arching ceiling, & the magnificent old pipe organ... The stairways are still narrow & some lead up 5 flights to the singular tower room where we used to have our Music classes, Chorus practices. I'm told students in 2001 could see the Twin Towers savaged & brought down to the ground from those same windows. The grounds are still lovely, hilly & grassy. The building is now a National Historic Landmark, so I think it has a reasonable chance of being preserved. Just wonderful memories.
A Walk in Clintonville, WhitestoneLots of good deals in Whitestone.
Listing of the Day: 163-57 Willets Point Boulevard UI regret to say that Patsy's in Whitestone was the worst pie I've had in years. The edges were actually blackened! and considering how well done it was, the pie was thin but amazingly soggy. Toppings were worthy of the Patsy's I remember in Manhattan but the crust needs a LOT of work. Hopefully this was just an exception and not the rule. The place is nicely furnished and the service friendly. The menu is brief and typical of a pizzeria and hopefully better executed than their pie. Places for a better pie: VIP in Bayside, Graziella's in Bayside, Grimaldi in Douglaston, Pizza Garden , Flushing. Long Live "GLORIAS" (R.I.P.) the best pizza ever to hit the borough of Queens.
Patsy’s comes to Whitestone, joining the ranks of famous pizzerias in QueensThat is really wild--I love it! I can tell you I didn't see anything similar in Moscow! This may make me actually journey to Queens!
