Gowanus Inn & Yard Hotel Looking Close to Done on Union Street in Gowanus
After four years in the works, the Gowanus Inn & Yard hotel on Union Street in Gowanus looks nearly ready to make its debut.
After four years in the works, Gowanus’ newest boutique hotel looks nearly ready to make its debut.
Started in 2013, when complete, the Gowanus Inn & Yard at 645-651 Union Street will join at least five other hotels in the area.
A visit Monday revealed exterior work on the property appears to be nearly complete, with the building topped out, multi-paned windows installed, and ready for some finishing touches before its projected opening later this year.
The hotel looks like its rendering, but the upper portion of red brick has been painted black rather than white. It is missing some quaint cornice details and arched windows at top and on the ground floor.
Additionally, none of the painted signage shown in the renderings is present yet.
The hotel’s cellar will have a restaurant and bar, and it’ll also have a roof terrace and sunken outdoor courtyard, according to the DOB filings. However, despite earlier renderings, there’s no indication that a pool will be present, either in DOB records or the hotel website.
Right now, the hotel’s site says it will open July 1, but that date appears to have been delayed a month, as August 1 is the first date available to book on the site.
The 76-room hotel is also for sale, listed by Cushman and Wakefield, as DNA noted earlier this year. There’s no asking price for the hotel on the listing.
Kutnicki Bernstein Architects is the architect of record — the firm is also designing another hotel nearby, at 85 Flatbush Avenue Extension in Downtown Brooklyn. The Gowanus Inn and Yard is being developed by Matt Abramcyk, founder of Manhattan’s Beatrice Inn and hotelier Alec Shtromandel, developer of Degraw Street’s Union Hotel, another Ascend hotel just a few blocks away.
