Game-Changing Brooklyn Shopping Hub Prepping to Open as Early as Thursday With Century 21

It’s been a long time coming, but the City Point shopping hub in Downtown Brooklyn is getting ready to open in early October, debuting with discount fashion mecca Century 21 Department Store, Target and dinner-with-a-movie chain Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. Once foodie destinations Trader Joe’s and DeKalb Market Food Hall open next year, the combined force of their draw will be a game-changer for Brooklyn, especially Downtown.
When Brownstoner stopped by this morning, permanent signage was up for Target and Century 21. The retail spaces were buzzing with activity, and dressed mannequins and merchandise on racks could be glimpsed all ready to go behind scrims at Century 21.
The grand opening for Century 21 happens Wednesday, October 5, a company spokesperson initially told Brownstoner. Turns out that was a typo — the press preview is set for Wednesday and the store could open any day after that, a Century 21 exec clarified.
Target and Alamo Drafthouse will also open soon, according to other tenants and the dinner-with-a-movie chain. Target is, in fact, set to open by October 9, according to signage spotted by a Brownstoner tipster in lower Manhattan.
Meanwhile, Copenhagen-based design store Flying Tiger and Szechuan restaurant chain Han Dynasty have both signed leases at the complex for what will be their first Brooklyn outposts, City Point announced Thursday.
The rest of the City Point stores — including the highly anticipated Trader Joe’s and mom-and-pop foodie wonderland DeKalb Market Food Hall — will debut next year, as we reported.
Given the combination of powerhouse retailers and food from celebrated venues around the five boroughs, City Point could well become a popular shopping destination rivaling some spots in Manhattan and pulling in tourists and residents around the region. It will certainly offer a plethora of options on the Fulton Mall in Downtown Brooklyn.
The mall opened in 2012 with Armani Exchange as the first retailer, then shuttered in 2015, when construction resumed, as we reported at the time. The retail space is part of a behemoth complex that consists of three mixed-use towers. Construction on the second tower was slated to wrap this past summer.
