These 8 Big Construction Projects Will Bring Almost 1,000 Apartments to Myrtle Avenue
A major commercial and residential thoroughfare in two boroughs, Myrtle Avenue is currently experiencing a surge of development where it runs through Fort Greene and Clinton Hill in Brooklyn. The construction will add almost 1,000 apartments as well as new ground-floor stores to the area.

The construction will add almost 1,000 apartments as well as new ground-floor stores to the area.
Here’s an update on the major projects currently under way, as reported by the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership.

531 Myrtle Avenue
The former location of a White Castle, this five-story building is slated to contain 6,000 square feet of ground floor retail and 27 apartments on its upper levels. It is being developed by Greystone Property Development and designed by AB Architekten.

504 Myrtle Avenue
Briefly controversial for its displacement of the former Pratt Station Post Office, 504 Myrtle Avenue will contain 141 apartments over its eight stories once completed. Of the 141 units, 28 will be affordable and leased through a lottery.
In addition to the residential units, the structure will also have 20,000 square feet of ground-floor retail. Madison Capital Realty is the developer, and HTO Architects is the designer.

491 Myrtle Avenue
Developer MLR Holdings and designer Isaac Stern are constructing a five-story mixed-use building on the site of a formerly vacant lot. The address is slated to have six apartments and 1,220 square feet of commercial space across the 5,000-square-foot property.

501 Myrtle Avenue
Work has not yet begun at 501 Myrtle Avenue, where the owners of the lot’s current Sapolo Spanish & Chinese restaurant have filed construction plans to build a six-story building. The plans outline a 1,700-square-foot ground-floor commercial space with 10 apartments above.

180 Myrtle Avenue
Known as The Margo, this 15-story structure topped out in August 2015, and most major construction is now complete. The large building is the work of developer Red Apple Development Group and designer Dattner Architects.
It contains 228 apartments, a 500-square-foot community facility, and 10,603 square feet of commercial space, including as many as 10 storefronts and a 133-parking-space garage.

86 Fleet Place
Foundation work is complete at 86 Fleet Place, the fourth Myrtle Avenue development by Red Apple Group helmed by grocery mogul and former mayoral candidate John Catsimatidis. Slated to rise to 32 stories, this tower will include 440 apartments and 10,025 square feet of ground-floor retail. It is being designed by Goldstein, Hill & West Architects.

525 Myrtle Avenue
Formerly the Myrtle Car Service, this address is being developed into a seven-story, 22-unit structure. There will be 2,650 square feet of ground-floor commercial condo space, with residences above. The building was designed by architect Gerald J. Caliendo and is being developed by FBS Realty.

134 Vanderbilt Avenue
Despite new-building permits being issued for the 134 Vanderbilt Address in 2015, work has not yet begun on the property. Developer All Year Management and designer ODA Architects plan to construct an eight-story mixed-use building on the site, with a total of 46 apartments and 8,050 square feet of ground floor commercial space.
The lot was previously the site of the Gulf Gas Station, which closed in 2014.
