We found a drawing on the fence showing the unusual-looking 48-unit condo building going in at 502 Waverly Avenue near Fulton Street in Clinton Hill. Workers were digging the foundation when we passed by.
A previously published rendering, below, shows a glassy facade with a Deco-style curved edge and a color-blocked gray and white facade consisting of narrow divisions between the large expanses of glass. It looks more like an office building than residential, to our way of thinking. In any case, we expect potential buyers will be happy to see more condos (as opposed to rentals) going up in the area.
The drawing we found on the fence shows a seven-story cube with setbacks. The developer is Orange Management Inc. and the applicant of record is Gerner Kronick & Valcarcel.
There will be 7,128 square feet of retail in the building. The projected completion date for the building is 2016, according to Orange’s website.
The property, previously an empty lot with parking, is also known as 882 Fulton. It traded in 2013 for the rather large sum of $9,215,000.
What do you think of the design?

Well, neither drawing is much of a rendering, is it? Sounds like they haven’t decided what it will look like. I’m afraid it will not be very contextual to the brownstone neighborhood, looks like it will be some sort of glass and steel box. Not too much to get excited about.
The exit that’s currently closed reopens some time next week (20th? 22nd? I forget), and then they’re closing the opposite entrance (Manhattan bound) at Fulton & Washington for a month or so.
Yeah, there’s no real context on this area of Fulton. It’s a combination of new, old, taxpayer buildings, some vacant lots, and so on. Further west are those weird townhouses, projects, and athletic fields fronting Fulton. Here on this corner, I’ll take nearly anything that replaces vacant lots. I do hope there will be retail on the ground floor facing Fulton…it’s hard to tell from the picture.

Putnamdenizen, do you know if the current stair project at the C station is intended to fix this? I use the Clinton side and the Washington entrance has been closed for a couple weeks, sending everyone to Clinton in the meantime.
