Does anyone have experience with Sears vinyl replacement windows? How to they rate compared to the usual vinyl suspects, and what about Sears installation and price compared to others? I have been reading the “windows” posts but haven’t seen reference to Sears. (I have a bunch of windows where the high end Marvins etc aren’t necessary).

  1. We had Sears do the 16 windows in our house in Queens in May 2005. They are Accu-Weld windows that were installed by Bil-Ray. The crew of 3 arrived at 9 AM sharp and were finished and completely cleaned up by 4 PM. They did an outstanding installation. Eighteen months later, the windows and installation are still in perfect condition. We decided to go with Sears because we thought it would be easier to get service if something happened down the road. So far we haven’t had to find out. [knocking on wood here] No drafts, no condensation, no mechanical failures, much lower Con Ed bills all year round. These windows replaced Crystal Windows that had been installed the year before we bought the house. Every seal was blown on those pieces of junk by the time we moved in a year later. BTW, the cost for the 16 windows, double-pane with Argon and screens, was $8500. That included furnishing and installing a new exhaust hose for our clothes dryer through the basement window and trucking away the old windows.

  2. Sears has a Franchise holder use their name.
The (SF) Sears Franchise holder sends a salesman to see you. Then they get a Subcontractor to do the work.
If something goes wrong, you call and speak to the reseptionist for help. Then she gets the Instalation Manager and then he gets the Quality Control supervisor and so on and so on and so on.
They all start pointing the finger at each other until your totaly exausted. In hope that you will go away.
In the end Sears will stop counting the Vig (Interest) they’re making off of you and begin to think about giving you some help.
Try to find a local contractor that will give you genuine service
