I need to have the rope replaced in my 120 year old manual dumb waiter between the first and second story. Any ideas of someone able to handle this?

  1. I notice you did not a lot of feedback. But they are fixed or replaced with new ones occasionally.
The shaft needs to be checked out for obstacles which could be anything from debris/electrical wires/plumbing/cabinet grounds/ structural framing members and yes entire closets.
Then the condition of the cab itself and its pulleys needs to be addressed. Settling of the home affects these as does the passage of time.
You will at the very least need new cables.
Residential Elevator Suppliers build and install dumb waiter cabs also. Though they do not prepare the shaft for you – much as is the case with a residential elevator installation. We are in process of completing the shaft and installing an elevator in a townhouse for a client and would be happy to assist you. You can contact us at BayridgeBuilders@aol.com

  2. I have never heard of anyone wanting to repair their dumb waiter. You’re unique.
Try asking a carpenter. Even if he doesn’t know how to fix it, he will probably figure it out.
