Clogged clawfoot bathtub drain
We have a slow bathroom drain (I squarely blame the sissy bodywashes and scrubs), and now the bathroom sink water has also started to flow into the tub instead of down the drain. I have emptied a few gallons of liquid plummer, etc. into the bathtub drain and also tried using an auger/ snake, but…
We have a slow bathroom drain (I squarely blame the sissy bodywashes and scrubs), and now the bathroom sink water has also started to flow into the tub instead of down the drain.
I have emptied a few gallons of liquid plummer, etc. into the bathtub drain and also tried using an auger/ snake, but didn’t get very far into the drain (I went in through the tub overflow drain opening).
Any tips?
And it worked!! Tried the snake after removing the sink trap, but it would not go too far. So shoved rags into the sink drain pipe, and the tub overflow and plunged the tub drain for all it was worth. Tub (and sink) drain like a charm now!
Thanks guys.
Thanks!! Your tips have encouraged me to tackle this again.
One thing I cannot fathom: how come the sink was draining fine for a long time initially while the tub was quite clogged, and it’s only now the sink also is backflowing into the tub. If the clog was after the sink, wouldn’t both drains have slowed/ clogged at the same time? Has the obstruction grown over time?
If the sink is back flowing into the tub the clog is most likely down past the tub further down the line. Snaking the overflow is very tricky as the bend is very severe and hard to make it through. Try what Rick said and snake from sink drain all the way into main waste, about 5′ depending on how big your bath is. You using an electric snake? Be careful now that there is all that draino in the line. Protect your eyes and skin from splashing.
Work a plunger while covering the overflow on the sink and then the tub. Use the snake again on the tub and try to get passed the trap. Take apart the sink trap and snake as far as you can go. That should do it.
