Does anyone know any woodworking tool shops in NYC? I need a Japanese saw, some good quality countersink bits and some specialty screws for this weekend, so I can’t order over the internet. I’ve already checked out the hardware stores like Homedepot, and they don’t sell these kinds of things. Any ideas? I’m in Manhattan.

  1. Double ditto for Tools for Working Wood. It’s confusing to find the right elevator to get up there, but parking is easy and it’s a fantastic supplier for fine woodworking tools and supplies, and really nice folks.

  2. Ditto on Tools for Working Wood.

An amazing spot that feels like you are stepping back 75 years, with the exception of the Festool shrine.

It’s up a few floors in an industrial building…it is marked, here and there…worth the search.

  3. Garrett Wade closed down the Manhattan showroom a couple of years ago. No worries there is a place 10x better which is now in Brooklyn.

Tools for working wood is on 33rd street b/t Second and Third Ave. Excellent selection of name brand tools plus they sell Festool and Gramercy tools (their own line). Joel, the owner, recently published a book about hand tools and he is always there should you happen to want to tap into his vast knowledge of woodworking tools.
