Fire Bricks
I am thinking of building a small pizza oven in our backyard and am looking for a fire brick source in Brooklyn. Home Depot and Lowes don’t carry them, nor can I find a source in the city. Any suggestions?

it is the flame that is not allowed. just thought I would point it out as if someone calls it in they will show up and depending upon the mood may drag a hose though the house to put it out…
Jock,
A pizza oven is not an open fire. Just google pizza oven (images). Can be wood or gas. An outdoor fireplace is also not an open fire. There are many, many around brooklyn and have also seen some in Manhattan.
Open fires are not. Is this going to be gas fired? Otherwise, watch out for the FDNY marching though your house with the fire hose…
Glenwood masonry also carries what you need, depending where you are.
2nd ave and 14th or 15th street, brooklyn. Sell fire bricks and refractory mortar.
is that legal in nyc?
Try the forno bravo forum. I think I saw some links there about where to get firebrick in the city. Also a bunch of other great pizza oven info.
