I have been having problems in the last year with a rat infestation in my townhouse basement. I have hired a contractor to seal any openings and cracks and have eliminated trash and clutter. I need a good exterminator to follow up.
Anyone have any experience with solving this sort of problem, or who can recommend a good exterminator?
Do you have rats or mice? Mice are smaller and can normally be reduced in number or eliminated by sealing all openings etc. Rats are much larger (in some parts of the city they can be the size of a kitten)and pose a bigger problem as they can pretty much chew through most things.
I had a similar problem last year in the finished basement of my apartment (mice though, not rats) due to construction on the block.
I sealed up all the cracks with steel wool and borrowed some kitty litter soiled with cat urine from a friend, which seemed to scare away any new rodents who wanted to come inside.
Make sure you set some traps to, incase any get trapped in your apartment after you seal it up, and so you don’t have to run around after a frazzled one at 4am with an empty tupperwear container.
