Glass Cutter Needed
Over the weekend, I shattered the glass on a table exactly like the one shown in the picture. Does anyone know where in the Brooklyn Heights / Cobble Hill area I can get a replacement piece of glass? It’s 8mm tempered glass, that is 17.75 square inches. Thanks!

I do have to agree with Vinca, I’ve used Bear a few times and sometimes they do take a long time. Other times it’s a quick turn around. When it comes to tempering, maybe it has to do with loading the kiln, where they need a full load in order to make economic sense, so they stock pile orders? In that case, the wait would be no longer than if you went to your local glass shop, since they’d be farming it out as well. Of course if Vinca’s shelves weren’t tempered, that arguement goes out the window.
Biff, I’ve used both Bear and Mega. Last time I used Bear they took WEEKS to cut three small shelves for a medicine cabinet. Assuming you’re coming from BH, Mega is 1 block from Bergen St. stop on IRT.
Mega’s good – phone to see if they’d farm it out or have it in stock. It’s a lot easier to get to for you.
Don’t be a pane in the glass, Biff.
Biff, I never used these people since I changed my idea about something, but they are reasonably priced and recommended by my neighbor:
Williamsburg Glass Inc
142 Classon Avenue, NY 11205-2637

Bond, thanks! I just mentioned about Bear Glass, which I heard about after posting this item. I’ll definitely check them out if I can’t find anything closer to home.
DIBS, your age is showing. You at least could have told me about a new invention known as the Internet that I could use to find what I need.
Thanks Vinca. CGar also recommended Bear Glass in South Slope, who seemed to indicate they could replicate the piece I need (I have a second identical table, so I could bring in the glass if I had to).
Does anyone know of a place closer to Brooklyn Heights?
Almost all of the glass shops in Brooklyn use Bear Glass for any special orders, which tempered glass would fall under. Why pay the middle man? They are over by Greenwood cemetery, not sure of the exact address, but easy enough to find.
If DIBS option doesn’t work, try Mega Glass, 51 5th Avenue, 718-638-7511
