Locksmiths
Does anyone have a recent recommendation for a locksmith? I checked out recent postings giving praise for a locksmith on 5th avenue. I checked it out it looks like there are two on 5th avenue. One is 5th Avenue Keyshop 222 5th ave 718-728-8143. The other is on 9th street called 5th Ave Key Shop…
Does anyone have a recent recommendation for a locksmith? I checked out recent postings giving praise for a locksmith on 5th avenue. I checked it out it looks like there are two on 5th avenue. One is 5th Avenue Keyshop 222 5th ave 718-728-8143. The other is on 9th street called 5th Ave Key Shop 295 9th Street(718) 768-8643. It seems that the one on 9th street was recomended, but it gave me the creeps when I read a review by a woman who said she used the service and the guy was acting creepy, see post below. Any other recs?

Another hearty endorsement of Fifth Ave Key Shop on 9th Street. Very professional and very reasonable pricing. Upfront on costs too.
Hey, I had Lockbusters come in on a sunday. $ 70 per lock flat, no sunday extra fee, no charge for coming, no ripoff. This is the only locksmith who has a Twitter and Facebook account, hahah. Nice guy, I would always call him again. lockbustersnyc.com
I was trying to remember the name of the locksmith I have used on Flatbush and it is the above — All Star Locksmith. They are alble to make all “issues” of Multi-Locks. Very good.
I have used All Star Locksmith on Flatbush at around St. Marks a LOT, and I’ve always found them to be terrific. Very quick, professional, friendly. Once a worker did the job (as opposed to the owner, who came the other times) and the work wasn’t quite as good (a deadbolt hole he drilled was a little off center so the deadbolt didn’t fit exactly). So if you have something more than a very small job, just request that the owner (and darned if I could remember his name right now…) do the job himself.
Another vote for 5th Avenue key shop. They did a couple of locks at my new place back in 2008.
Stay away from All Security. In Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights. Anywhere.
Another fan of 5th Ave Key Shop on 9th. Nicky has been to our place several times (recently moved to a new place and needed to change a lot of locks plus fix some broken ones at the old place) and has been great. Even my dog, who doesn’t love everyone, loves him and hangs out with him while he works. As another said, when you call the shop to make an appointment, they don’t seem too friendly but we’ve been really happy with the guy who actually shows up.
I recommend 5th Ave. Key Shop on 9th street. A few months ago I had them replace 4+ double locksets when we bought our new house in South Slope. They were not cheap but we opted to make the investment in better hardware. The counter service is a bit brusque but the installer “Nicky” is terrific – very personable. He’s also a perfectionist: some of our doors are a bit out of whack so he took the extra time to tighten them up and get all the locksets working smoothly. I think he said they would come back for 6 months if there were any problems.
FWIW 295 5th street has nothing to do with the Fifth Avenue Key Shop,on 9th Street, off 5th Ave. That’s the place a number of people have recommended.
