I’m looking for a recommendation for a home heating system maintenance service plan. This is for a forced air gas fueled system.

  1. You can do the natl grid service plan for a couple hundred bucks a year. Or you can pay as you go, because like Bob said there’s not that much to go wrong. You can likely go for years just changing the filters and pay for repairs if something does break. My motor doesn’t have grease cups to refill. You could call someone to check it out in the fall and avoid making your first service call on a cold Saturday in January (when, in desperation, you could end up w/ someone charging outrageous prices). A couple of recommendations for repair guys –

    Chris Quartanna
    AAA Combustion & Control
    646 996 3436

Natco (I forget the guy’s name, but he’s good, and I think now joined up with Aladdin plumbing)
    718 252 7200

  2. I’ve had the former Brooklyn Union Gas/Keyspan/National Grid service plan [“Premier Heat Plus Plan”]for years. It’s now run by a third party vendor, but sold through National Grid. It’s been perfectly adequate the few times I’ve needed service. Fortunately forced hot air systems don’t need much in the way of maintenance. Someone from BUG showed me what to do back in 1974 and it takes me about a half hour once every heating season to lubricate the fan, turn, and occasionally re-fill the grease cups, and change the filter.
