Is there a drywall/sheetrock that is better than all the rest(denser ect) to replace plaster in a small(4’X5′ 11 ft tall) powder room?
Is the Hardibacker useable and accept skim coat? (We usually use joint compound mixed with plaster of paris which makes a good top coat)Thank You

  1. There’s a special drywall called blue board that’s intended for skim coating. The paper is treated to key better to plaster. I think the gypsum core is the same as Type X. If you need something more dense, such as for sound control, you can use a sound-deadening board underneath. I’ve not used the latter but the trade name is Toughrock.
