During a renovation, we had a marble fireplace removed. It wasn’t in good condition to begin with, and to broke during the removal, which we thought would probably happen.

So now I’ve got a bunch of pieces of marble, mostly broken into odd shapes. The mantle is still intact. Is there a way I can get some money for them, or are they worthless at this point?

  1. Thanks for the replies. The mantle, at least, is sufficiently intact that it should be of use to someone.

Any suggestions for who to contact about buying it?

  2. If it’s in too many parts, the cost of fixing it will probably exceed the resale value. And you’d be competing with salvage dealers who are selling intact mantles.

Marble chunks aren’t worth anything, as far as I know.

  3. The mantle will fetch money. If the other parts actually fit back together into something resmbling the rest of the surround, they can be repaired by a marble guy- with epoxy and marble dust.

If not, they make nice garden accents. We found one of our marble 2ft under our garden in shards, and now those shards make nice footpath steps through our garden.
