Hi,
Last winter really took a toll on my brownstone stoop, and it’s time to get it fixed. I see alot of work done on stoops that involves applying cement to the brownstone. This does not sound right to me. the stone has to breathe, and if it doesn’t, it will separate from the cement which will crack and chip off. That’s what’s currently happening to my stoop. Can anyone clear up this process of ‘cementing’ the brownstone? also looking for rec’s of masons who know what they’re doing.
cheers
Hello Stuystone,
give Dan a call he can come out and give you estimate on this project for you he is very reasonable and very reliable he can be reached at 718 485-1044.
Proper resurfacing can solve the problem. The stoops need to cheap out lose part down to solid sound base. Good slurry coat, mortor scratch and finish coat with the brownstone color cement.Call M.Hamid Construction Co. at (718)633-1500 to get an estimate.

StuyStone:
You are somewhat right,Brownstone needs to breathe. But in order to refinish Brownstone you will need to use cement. Only cement could stand the weather.
Using the proper Lime mortar mix is key for this type of projects, and this will allow the Brownstone to breathe.
