Bushwick Irving Square Park area
Looking for feedback regarding this area. We’re a family of 4 that was looking in Bedstuy but our search/curiosity has taken us to Bushwick. We’re familiar with the area around the Montrose L stop but not the Halsey L stop.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully this will come to fruition.
i live near there and have for 5 years. it has changed a bit and for the better but it’s still a little shady. From what I have seen, there is crime but almost always it’s between people who know each other, not random. i don’t know if that would make you feel better.
the park is nice though and overall, the people around there are nice. not much for food or drinking either but i do agree that in terms of an investment, you should do okay if you have some time to keep letting things improve.
I bought a house here last year. I’m close to the Wilson Ave station.
I love the neighborhood, I love the people in the neighborhood. It’s a very friendly and generally tight knit community. I was made to feel very welcome by many of the long term residents. Always much polite and friendly talk from strangers, “good morning” small talk, pleasantries, etc, much more so than where I lived previously on Dekalb and Wyckoff.
I walk my dogs night and day through Irving park, (referred locally as Halsey Park) never an issue, just pleasant laid back interactions.
I’ve found it to be a great area.
I don’t know what it’s like right around there (i’m closer to broadway) but I feel like that spot can only get better. They just fixed up the park and there are blocks of uninterrupted ‘bow-front’ townhouses, quite different from the rest of the neighborhood. I’ve seen new shops open up around there as well. But you may have to ride out things until the economy improves.
But look here’s an interview on BushwickBK with someone who lives off the Halsey L and loves it:

Well…..it’s kind of far out and there are few amenities. As for crime, it’s impossible to know without living there since the precinct won’t let you look at weekly crime maps, even though this is public information. I was there looking at a house for rent once at about 7 pm in the winter and saw a crime in progress (a man beating up a woman on the street). I reported it, and a cop drove by and I flagged them down. I get the impression there is more crime in that area than above Myrtle. Is this to say it’s terrible or would affect you? Maybe not. Who knows?
The area around the Dekalb L in Bushwick and Ridgewood is very nice. We looked for over a year between Flushing and Myrtle along the L train and couldn’t find what we needed there, ended up moving to Bed Stuy. There are lots of three families, a few two families, but all the apartments are floor-throughs, and we needed a duplex. If you can live with a floor through, I recommend that location.
If you found a really great place around Irving Square, it might be worth it. But the Stuy Heights area is definitely better right now.
