Where to Get the Best Price on Benjamin Moore Paint - contractor's prices as well
Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew where the best place to get Benjamin Moore paint was. We’re working with a contractor who has a tax ID also. Any information would help – either best retail price or best contractor’s price. Thanks!

Well, family is doing the renovation for us. They are legal contractors but we are getting ALL the materials. I don’t want to hassle them any further so I am doing the research and giving them the info. The contractors will be going in to pick up the supplies.
Ok, I just called the main Janovic office and got the low down on contractor pricing from them. The reason I was told “everyone gets contractor pricing” is because the store I was at, Long Island City, is a “contractor store” and all materials are priced for contractors. The stores in the city have a two tier pricing structure; contractors and retail. To get contractor pricing in the city, I was told “you must show some id to prove you are a contractor.” I did not ask what kind of id would satisfy them.

Why should you get the contractor price? There’s a reason contractors pay less. They are the life line to the paint store. Your a 1 shot maybe 2 shot deal in a lifetime. They buy paint and supplies every week. I’ve always done all my own painting and never once thought to ask for contractor pricing. Do you bring your own eggs to the diner for them to cook for you as well?
Sorry for ranting but it gets so old when people think they deserve a break. Just pay the going price for the paint and be done with it. Benjamin Moore paint will cost you about the same no matter where you buy it.
I’m a salesman for a wholesale heating and PVF house. I sell to the contractor at “Contractor pricing” because they are my lifeline. The homeowner is usually a one shot deal and if I sell a boiler direct to the homeowner I usually inherit their problems because they’re clueless and too cheap to hire a professional. So I either tell them to get a contractor or I recommend a contractor or tell them to buy somewhere else.
@ TINKER: They just tell you that everyone gets contractor pricing to shut the homeowner up.
Oh yeah, it’s also illegal to use someone elses tax ID.
O.K. I’m done bitching for the night.
thetinkerswagon,
Thats not exactly correct. Janovic does hav etwo prices, it is cheaper for the trade

Hardware store at the corner of Franklin and Clifton in Stuy Hill. (BedStuy/Clinton Hill)
Not the nicest guys, not rude either but make sure you know what you want.
Several months ago they quoted me lower prices than anyone and they are authorized.
Paint by George at mcdonald ave between church ave and ave C.They are helpful and with the tax id you dont need to pay tax.
I once asked Janovic for contractor pricing and they told me “everyone gets contractor pricing.” Many people assume that contractors get a break because they have a tax id number; that is not the case. Some vendors allow a discount through their house charge account – but those discounts are based on volume and that threshold is fairly high for a small contractor. My local Ben Moore dealer has told me I can ask him for a break on big orders, but that is it. Most of the time we end up paying retail. It is probably better to find a competitive retail outlet like some of those suggested above.

Paints by George in Kensington is great–they cater to both contractors and DIY-ers. Very friendly, helpful, and well priced. Near the intersection of McDonald and Church Avenues. Phone: 718.438.4161
Good luck.
