Intercom Reccs

I’m in the midst of a gut on a two fam.  We’re in the upper and I’d like to install an intercom while the walls are open and running the wire is easy.  Has anyone any recommendations about systems – just a bell and intercom, no door opener – or at the least, what kind of wire should be run?
Thanks.

The type of wiring will be depend on the system you choose. Some systems will only need 2 conductors, some 4, some 6\. It should all be riser rated and run away from any other electrical wiring. I would start by selecting your equipment. I would recommend Aiphone or Lee Dan. They’re common enough that parts are readily available any anyone can work on them. You may not want a door release now, but you or a future owner may, so it can’t hurt to run the wire for it. One advantage of putting in a door strike is than it would be very simple to put in a standalone access system on the door so that you don’t need keys.
