Hardwood Floor Gaps

Some of my hardwood floor slats are separating from one another and I’m getting some good sized gaps (see photo).  Has anyone filled their floor gaps with rope & then stained it (a reccomendation from This Old House)? If so, did you do it yourself, or hire someone?  Also, how did it work out? Thanks.

Now that’s a pretty good idea, assuming the gaps are small. You don’t want to use filler or epoxy between the board because it will crack with expansion and contraction. Why don’t you just test it yourself? Leave a tail of rope sticking up so you can easily pull it out if it doesn’t work.

Interesting! I never heard of the rope trick. I know that there is an epoxy mix you can use to fill knot holes. I did the black once for a rustic looking reclaimed floor, but I don’t know if it comes in other colors.
