Are you having trouble with State Farm paying your claim for last weekend's storm?

Just curious if I’m the only one. I’m considering filing suit and if others have had the same issue, I’d be interested in hearing from you.

A week?  It’s taken me longer to get very straightforward claims paid out.  I think it’s too soon to get upset. That said, remember how State Farm screwed over customers affected by Hurrican Katrina?  For that reason alone I would never buy a policy from State Farm.

Roof leaks are tough.  The key is whether it is an ongoing maintenance issue or strictly caused by the storm.  The Insurance company will evaluate if the roof was damaged from the storm, or if the leaking is a pre-existing condition from normal wear and tear or lack of maintenance.

cipster – how old is the roof?  Insurance will pay for the damages caused by water entry..  but a new roof might be a tough one for them to cover.   Unless the winds were greater than what would otherwise be considered survivable by a roof in good condition – they’ll likely not cover.   If its a new-ish roof – they’d argue it’s still under the installer’s warranty.  If it’s old they’d argue that it’s beyond it’s serviceable life. unless there are a good number of homes inthe vicinity with similar roof damage – they’d likely not cover the roof install, only repair and patching.

MY experience with state farm has been good in the past. Has an adjuster been out yet?  Start to finish the process could take a month or longer, depending on how many claims they have to deal with.  In cases like storms (where there are likely a great many who were affected) – its gonna take a while. In my case, it was a forced-entry burglary, two years ago.   took about a month before we saw a check…   repairs in the meantime were out of pocket.  give it some time.

Good luck, a week is nothing.  I having been dinking around wih my insurer from last summer’s storm.  Don’t go with GMAC as they just sell the policy to someone you have never heard of and they are not helping with resolving the problem.

Interesting you should ask this.  I have spent the week pondering various leaks and have to consider a new roof.  Only las night did it hit me that I should call my insurance compnay… wondering if any of this is covered.
