Real estate question
My friend’s grandmother owned a house in Brooklyn in the 1920s. After the stock-market crash she couldn’t sell the house and decided to abandon it. Do her heirs have any claims to the property now?

In any event, the Statue of Limitations would undoubtedly prevent lodging any claim against the current owners of the property. If your friend knows the address of the property, they can check the current ownership and some history online with ACRIS.

Unless the heirs have been paying the taxes on the property since 1920, I doubt it. Assuming she owned it outright, the City probably, took it for tax arrears many years ago. If there was a mortgage then the bank might have acquired it before the City.
