Yet another ductless split AC question
Hi all I keep trying to live without AC on the parlor floor, but this year is tougher than usual! I got a quote for a ductless system and it seems so expensive considering the scope of work. The unit itself is about $2000 including all the tubing and it seems crazy to spend $10K for installation. Has anyone bought a unit themselves and hired an independent guy to install the system? And if so, any recommendations? Thanks!

I’ve used Arnica for 2 separate properties. I got heat pumps from Mitsubishi which do both AC and heat and they took around $13k per floor (not including electrician or drywall repair). 1/3-1/4 can be subsidized by Con Ed if you decommission your gas boile. To get the subsidies you need to work with an approved vendor and Arnica is one such vendor

I had a completely wonderful experience with Selwen at Daniel HVAC. I have an 8-year-old system that’s pretty much caused us plenty of grief from the beginning, so we have had the opportunity to meet plenty of HVAC contractors, and none that I would recommend. I only wish I had met Selwen 8 years ago; he could explain off-hand the pros and cons of different systems, knew when prices went up, what models were about to become obsolete. He was on time to check our place, on time to fix the system, did the work in less time than his estimate and so charged us less. I can’t remember this had ever happened to us before. Best of all, they left the garden spotless around the condenser, didn’t trample the plants and/or trashed the floors (which had happened to us before.) I can’t recommend him enough. His number is 718-678-7478\. Let him know Marie-Helene recommended him.

If you go to any HVAC supply house, and you will buy unit from them, they will recommend you installer. Those installers usually charge $500 per installed system. You just have to watch them, because they have no certification and insurance and they really do crappy job.If one of them will fall from ladder and sustain an injury, you will pay dearly. If they will damage your house you can sue them. Good luck. But the best part is you will get tailgate warranty.
