Soak Up Some Design Inspiration This Month With NYCxDesign

Those on the hunt for some design inspiration to give their interior spaces a fresh look can head to a plethora of events as New York City’s annual design month returns.

NYCxDESIGN, a nonprofit that promotes the city’s creative community, runs from May 16 through May 23 this year with exhibitions, panels, open studios, and trade shows across the city.

The anchor trade shows, the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) and WantedDesign Manhattan, both run from May 19 to 21 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in Manhattan.

For Brooklyn design lovers who want to stay in the borough, there are exhibits, tours, and more to enjoy.

Brooklyn Metal Works is opening a new exhibit on May 17 showcasing the design of a common utensil. The aptly named “Spoons” runs through June 30 and includes the work of over 15 designers with spoons both functional and fanciful.

The Atlantic Avenue BID is hosting the first-ever Atlantic Avenue Day of Design on May 18. Shoppers along the avenue can attend workshops, meet and greets with designers, and exhibits. There is a map of participating businesses and you can look for the pink NYCxDesign logo in windows along the avenue.

Meet innovators at work at the Brooklyn Navy Yard with Design Day at the Yard on May 18. There will be an open house focused on green design, a showcase of locally made food and beverages alongside handcrafted wares, tours of Brooklyn Roasters, and the unveiling of a new public art piece.

FAD Market will be holding a special pop-up market featuring designers and makers on May 18 and 19 at Boerum Hill’s Invisible Dog Center. The market will include over 50 designers and on the 19th Urban Glass will hold a glass bead demonstration.

From May 18 to May 25 Studio S II in Bushwick is hosting “Design Dysphoria,” a queer designer-led exhibition. The show features the work of 17 designers, artists, and architects and events during the exhibition’s run include an opening party and a panel discussion with the curators.
