Compared to the more recent Fedders covers, this vintage one is tres charmant… unobtrusive lettering, monochromatic, transparent mesh cover that conceals as it dematerializes…
This is a really old A/C unit as Friedrich is out of the business. You can’t even buy a replacement unit for these old masonary sleeves so most people leave the old broken units in place. Dig that quality brick laying. The pointing has washed out.
This sort of facade desecration shows why Historic District status is so desirable.
It isn’t always easy to deal with the LPC, but IMO it’s worth it.
The worst travesty of all is the 4-story brownstone on Gates near Classon where some lunatic “developer” has actually cut holes in the facade for air conditioner sleeves. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse…
