A reader sent in this image of what seems like several cables connected to the Newswalk building in Prospect Heights. The reader, of course, had the same question as we do: what the?? Is this the handiwork of guerrilla tight-rope artists? Daytime ninjas? Confused window washers? Feel free to cash in, readers. GMAP

  1. def a string and can system…they’re all the rage in Brooklyn right now…except you can’t text on them yet….maybe in another year or so…I’m holding out for the next generation “touch” can, personally
    String me later everybody, kay?

  2. I would agree with bkre:

    “LL 11/98 IRA-based Inspections
The combined approach of versatile IRA-trained inspectors equipped with state-of-the-art digital cameras and mobile computers for recording field observations means more surface area can be inspected in less time. Engineers can focus their attention on assessing problem areas uncovered by the field observations. Work scopes for necessary repair work can be more accurately defined by reviewing work needed by area, adding to overall efficiency. Proprietary software allows a “paperless” report to combine pictures of any defects with the inspector’s observation comments. Once logged, a legal, tamperproof, formatted document is generated. This report can be printed, e-mailed or exported as an Excel document, perfect for searching or integrating with many other maintenance and report programs.”

And these may be the Bklyn based folks doing it:

    Crazy riggers!

  3. All very entertaining scenarios. The reality is much more mundane. They are doing some local law 11 repair work to the brick facade and also doing some repair work to the rooftop surfaces. If you look at the Dean Street entrance you’ll notice that they recently extended the sidewalk bridge to go all the way up to through the courtyard to the front gate. They also temporarily closed the rooftop playground because of the work.
