Japanese Classical Dance for Kids at Resobox – This evening, take your 8-11 year old to this fun and informative Japanese classical dance class in Long Island City. Performer and writer Helen Moss leads the class in learning about the 400 year-old elegant Soke Fujima style of nichibu dance. The class goes for an hour, starting at 5:30pm, with a class for people 12 years old and up following immediately at 6:30pm. All experience levels are welcome.

Queens Tongue Threat Open Mic – The event, has been drawing enthusiastic crowds since last May, takes place on Tuesday at 7:30pm at Woodhaven’s historic Neir’s Tavern, one of oldest bars in the country (it was founded in 1829). It’s hosted by local poet Aisha Gordon – who also founded the Queens Artists Collective on Meetup.com – and she is on a mission to dispel the idea that “the arts don’t grow in Queens.” Stop by and see what all the excitement is about.

Art/Life – Leslie Shaw Zadoian’s abstract installation at the Queens College Art Center in Kew Gardens Hills explores the primal relationship between art and everyday life, and especially how the artist serves as a bridge between the two. The small room contains both objects with determined roles and those that may not mean anything at all. Come by on Wednesday from 1-5pm to experience and meditate on the artist’s expression of this art/life connection.
