Lecture on East European Jewry – The Central Queens Y will host a special lecture on a disappearing part of Jewish history on Monday, Oct. 29. Jonathan Brent, executive director of the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, will discuss his agency’s work in recovering the lost world of East European Jews. YIVO was founded in Poland in 1925 by a group of Jewish intellectuals, including Albert Einstein and Sigmund Freud. The event begins at 1:30pm with a suggested donation of $6. The Central Queens Y will provide refreshments and light snacks.

23rd Annual Jackson Heights Children’s Halloween Parade – New York City’s largest children’s Halloween parade will take place in Jackson Heights on Halloween afternoon. Several thousand marchers are expected. Participants will line up at about 4:30pm at the intersection of 89th Street and 37th Avenue before proceeding down 37th Avenue. 3,000 bags of Halloween goodies will be distributed at the end of the parade. Now in its 23rd year, the parade is organized by the Jackson Heights Beautification Group.
