Patsy’s Pizzeria will be opening its first location outside of Manhattan at 21-64 Utopia Parkway (GMAP) in Whitestone, Queens, sometime in April. The famed pizzeria originally opened in 1933 in East Harlem and has four other Manhattan locations. Owner Frank Brija declares, “This will be the best pizza to hit Queens in 100 years.”

That’s quite a claim. So we decided to take a look at the other revered pizza joints in the borough to see what Patsy’s will be up against:

New Park Pizzeria in Howard Beach (GMAP) is a Queens original, established in 1956. Devotees from all over the city agree that Queens has the best pizza after they’ve tried a New Park pie.

Then there’s Grimaldi’s, the popular DUMBO pizzeria that has an outpost in Douglaston (GMAP). Locals agree that the Douglaston Grimaldi’s has retained all of the deliciousness of the Brooklyn original, without the crazy lines.

People flock to Amore Pizzeria, tucked into a shopping plaza in Flushing (GMAP), for its super-gooey cheese and flavorful sauce.

Another popular but under-the-radar spot is Margherita Pizza in Jamaica (GMAP), which serious pizza fans consider among the top slices in Queens.

Other hotspots include Nick’s Pizza in Forest Hills (GMAP), Lucia Pizza in Flushing (GMAP), and Brother’s Pizza in Fresh Meadows (GMAP).

Everyone has their favorite. Who do you think makes the best pizza in Queens?

  1. I regret to say that Patsy’s in Whitestone was the worst pie I’ve had in years. The edges were actually blackened! and considering how well done it was, the pie was thin but amazingly soggy. Toppings were worthy of the Patsy’s I remember in Manhattan but the crust needs a LOT of work. Hopefully this was just an exception and not the rule.
The place is nicely furnished and the service friendly. The menu is brief and typical of a pizzeria and hopefully better executed than their pie.
Places for a better pie: VIP in Bayside, Graziella’s in Bayside, Grimaldi in Douglaston, Pizza Garden , Flushing.
Long Live “GLORIAS” (R.I.P.) the best pizza ever to hit the borough of Queens.
