Beginning this month, Amy’s Bread is moving its baking operations to Long Island City, according to a notice on its Chelsea Market location. The decision is a result of growing volume and demand, which the Chelsea Market kitchen can no longer support. Instead, the ovens will be replaced with a 2,000 square-foot retail storefront with a baking demo kitchen where customers can see baking in action.

The Hell’s Kitchen store will also expand as a result of the move. The dessert kitchens will be replaced with an “Express” retail store for a quick breakfast, lunch or snack, with the hopes of easing the occasional long lines at the location.
Amy’s Bread will be the latest to move in to LIC’s “Flour District,” a collection of ex-Manhattanite bakeries that include Le Pain Quotidien, Eleni’s, and Pain D’Avignon, along with original neighborhood fixture Tom Cat. Amy Scherber also hopes to open a retail kiosk at the new Queens location. It’s an exciting development for LIC residents, and promises to make the neighborhood just a little sweeter.
