Request for Proposals issued for kayak, canoe, bike rental stations and more in Jamaica Bay, Rockaways

The Times Ledger reports that the city Parks Department and National Parks Service have issued a Request for Proposals for kayak, canoe, and bike rental stations, as well as mobile food units on the city and federal land in Jamaica Bay, the Rockaways, and Gateway National Recreation Area. The RFP was issued earlier this week.

The hope is that these changes/improvements will encourage more visitors to come to the area, and along with that, revenue. Even before Hurricane Sandy ht, local knew that tourism would be of help, and after all the damage and harm that Sandy inflicted, bringing visitors and their pocketbooks to the area would be an even bigger help. Apart from that, Jamaica Bay is a beautiful place in NYC, and really worth a visit. It’s a great place to see birds and other animals.

Linda Canzanelli, superintendent of the Gateway National Recreation Area, says, “Expanded opportunities for biking, canoeing and kayaking are great ways to help everyone experience America’s great outdoors and the wonders to be found around Jamaica Bay. We are excited about this opportunity to partner with the city to expand visitor services at our beaches through the wonderful food found in New York City’s mobile food trucks.”
