There will be something sweet for foodies, green-living experts, nature lovers, youngsters, and even surfer dudes. Tomorrow, the fourth annual NYC Honey Fest will bring everything from monofloral honey to honey-infused desserts to beeswax-based cosmetics to the Rockaways. The daylong festival will include a bee-themed parade, a savory contest organized by the American Honey Tasting Society (submit form here), live music, film, a variety of food options, and children-friendly activities, such as hive-making and face-painting. More information and photos after the jump.
First, the bee marketplace. More than two dozen vendors will set up tables and tents to sample, sell, and share their bee- and honey-related products and services.
- For the sweet syrup, consider Andrew’s Honey; Brooklyn Grange (which is actually located in Queens); and Wilk Apiary.
- Among the hive products will be Green Bee Soda; HoneyGramz; Mee Beauty; and Neal’s Yard Remedies.
- For food, a few options will be Breezy’s BBQ; Caracas Arepa Bar; CitySticks; and Rippers.
Then there are the other types of fun. Activity providers will include NYC Beekeepers Association; NYC Facepaint; City Growers and its bee-costume making; Arts In Parts with an interactive booth about the honeybees’ role in pollination; and a Rockaway Summer photo booth.
Details: NYC Honey Fest, 97th Street Boardwalk, (vicinity of B. 97th Street, Shore Front Parkway and the water), Rockaway Beach, 11 am to sunset, free.
