469 Park Place: I'm Burning, I'm Burning for You
We noticed this beautiful old double-bay-front apartment building at 469 Park Place a couple of weeks ago and were curious to know how long it has sat like this. Does anyone know how long ago the fire happened?

Y’all are correct. There are two buildings on that street that are now out of commission. I used to live in between the two. The one closer to Wash. Ave. was a recent fire. The other closer to the school across the street has been like that for years (evidenced by the 15′ trees growing thru the fence). That building is nice, but the roof is missing and back windows too. . . Interiors are nice, but many in the bldg I lived in were “remodeled” which took out most of their character (but brought in more rent!).
just goes to show. . . don’t let uneducated people cook or use candles . . . boiling hotdogs should be allowed, but no cooking with grease!
this building has been like this for years..atleast 4 or 5 you can tell by the rust on the shutters.
I believe this is not the building that recently had the fire but it is only a few doors down from that one. There are now 2 on this block that are burned out.
Could be. I was talking about the second or third building in from the corner of Washington after the police station. I thought that was the only building on this block that was currently boarded up.
Every time I pass this building I hope that it will someday be rehabbed. Whether market-rate or affordable housing, it could provide, IMO, 16 units.
That is completely false. This building has been sitting like this for at least the last four years that I have been in the neighborhood. This is between Classon and Grand/Washington, maybe you are thinking of another property.
The fire was a couple of months ago, right around the time of the fire that killed that family in Crown Heights. In a two or three week span there were a number of these fires that resulted in a few or all the tenants in the building being relocated. There have been several rumors about the origins of the fire including the landlord burning out the tenants and a drug dispute gone bad. Nothing has been proven and the neighborhood grapevine has been silent about rehab or renovation of the property.
